FULLNAME: David L. Steele
CITYSTATEZIP: Augusta, Wisconsin 54722
EDUCATION: Law Degree, University of Wisconsin
OCCUPATION: 5year U. S. Army Signal Corps; 2years private practice, St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, 2years, field
attorney, U. S. Veterans Services Dept.; 34 years, Asst Prof, Business Law, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire;
5 years, owner/operator, Riverside Junction Canoe/Kayak Rental, Eau Claire river.
INVOLVEMENT: 12 years, Board of Directors, Wisconsin Public Radio Association, presently chair of Operations
Committee; also worked on WPRA on air auctions and other volunteer work. Lifelong listener.
WHYSERVE: I believe in quality public radio as an essential element of the cultural and educational life of the
people of Wisconsin. We have one of the finest public radio systems in the nation. I believe I am making a valuable
contribution to WPRA and I would like to continue to use my knowledge and experience with the Association.
REPRESENTATION: I have spoken and worked for Wisconsin Public Radio regionally and on a statewide basis for the
past 12 years. During that time I have chaired a board committee, actively participated in legislative meetings and
visits, and maintained contact with our regional listeners in meetings and individually. I feel that, as one of the
longest serving members of the Association board, I can add both a historical perspective to board operations and a
seasoned insight into board problems. I have been and will continue to be an active advocate for the listeners of the
West Central Region.
FUNDRAISING: I have a long record of personal contribution of time and money to the Association and to public radio.
I have worked in the legislative arena for continued State support of WPR. I have also worked with the regional manager,
Dean Kallenbach, in efforts to raise funds locally.
FEEDBACK: I have sought input from our regional listeners on their programming wishes and have been diligent in
representing those views to WPR management. These efforts have been consistent with the recognition of the Association's
advisory role in programming matters.
RESPONSIBILITY: For the past 12 years I have engaged in serious consideration of recommendations of the Board Finance
Committee with respect to intelligent investment of funds the Board has the responsibility for. I have questioned Board
expenditures when I felt it was necessary to do so. The WPRA has a Finance Committee composed of experienced and
competent members who with the assistance of WPR's excellent financial staff has, in my opinion, operated in an
outstanding manner.
