FULLNAME: Ginger Alden
CITYSTATEZIP: Wausau, WI 54401
EDUCATION: BS Economics, Magna Cum Laude, University of Utah
OCCUPATION: Current: VP, Community Development, River ValleyBank.
Previous: Manager, Executive Interim Mgmt. Before that, 4 years as Director of the ArtsBlock Campaign, raising $13 million to fund additions and renovations to the historic Grand Theater, downtown Wausau.
INVOLVEMENT: I currently serve on the WPRA Board, including the Finance Committee, after being appointed in Spring 2009 to fill the Central Wisconsin vacancy. I have supported and listened to WPR's classical and ideas networks for 25 years.
WHYSERVE: WPR is the best public radio service in the United States. I am honored to bring experience in fund raising, non-profit, as well as for-profit financial and business operations, along with a familiarity with political advocacy to keep the service strong, financially viable, and responsive to listeners and members.
REPRESENTATION: It is critical that Board members be enthusiastic advocates of WPR. My husband and I have lived in Wausau for 25 years. We are strongly connected here. Frequently, I find myself in conversations that include the phrase "I recently heard on public radio..." I look forward to every opportunity to sing the praises of a invaluable component of great quality of life in Central and all of Wisconsin. Last spring I spent a day in Madison visiting numerous legislators on behalf of WPR. I am very comfortable in that role.
FUNDRAISING: My background includes 4 years directing fundraising for the $13 Million ArtsBlock campaign. I am ready to assist in any way that the WPR development staff determines helpful, including letter drafting, letter signing, phone calls, event hosting, donor development, and, of course, continued personal donations.
FEEDBACK: While WPR programming is not the direct responsibility of the Board of Directors of WPRA, it is of keen interest to members, listeners, as well as the WPRA Board. At times, WPR programming decisions are not accepted until underlying considerations are understood. I welcome feedback from listeners and can serve as a conduit bringing listener views to those directly responsible for programming, as well as bringing back to listeners an explanation of factors influencing program direction.
RESPONSIBILITY: I will act as a responsible steward of all funder and member contributions, taking care to maximize service levels while managing expenses, in accordance with applicable laws. I will further act prudently with decisions affecting the growth and preservation of WPRA's endowments.
AFFILIATIONS: My community experience includes involvement and leadership in a broad range of organizations, including the Wausau Performing Arts Foundation (chair), the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin (chair), North Central Wisconsin Conservancy Trust (secretary), the Foundation of Marathon County Public Library, Leadership Wausau, the Wausau Festival of Arts (chair), 14 years on the Marathon County Board, and 8 years on the Rib Mountain Town Board.
