OUR VISION STATEMENT

WPRA is a forward-looking organization dedicated to facilitating radio programming of high quality that addresses the needs of listeners.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT
THE ROLE AND FUNCTION OF THE WISCONSIN PUBLIC RADIO ASSOCIATION
Adopted May 11, 1983, Revised May 6, 1991

The purpose of the Wisconsin Public Radio Association (WPRA) is to support Wisconsin Public Radio. WPRA's support falls into these areas of responsibility:

  1. To serve as a statewide membership organization for those listeners to Wisconsin Public Radio who have contributed at a minimum membership level.
  2. To serve the two licensees of Wisconsin Public Radio (WHA-Radio and the Educational Communications Board [ECB])as a fiscal agent for funds raised on behalf of Wisconsin Public Radio.
  3. To engage in fundraising to support the program service of Wisconsin Public Radio.
  4. To provide funding and guidance for listener research to improve the quality of programming and services.
  5. Through regional committees, to serve as liaison between the licensees and listeners; to sponsor projects that involve public participation throughout Wisconsin Public Radio's listener area; and through public awareness activities, to promote the service so as to attract additional member support.

MEMBER SUPPORT ORGANIZATION
The Association encourages membership and active participation in its activities. The membership list is the principal source for volunteers needed to carry on the Association functions.

MISSION
WPRA membership is tax deductible to the extent provided by law. WPRA members are given the opportunity to vote for candidates for the Board of Directors of the Association, to serve on the board or on working committees of the organization. In addition, members are encouraged to help inform the general public about issues involving public broadcasting and the need for listener support.

FISCAL AGENT
The Association holds and invests money raised for Wisconsin Public Radio. It agrees in writing each year on the proper distribution to the licensees of the money invested. Investment decisions are the responsibility of the elected financial officers of the Association, and the Association's chief financial officer will report regularly on the condition of funds.

FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES
The WPRA, because of its staff/licensee relationship, is an important partner in the fundraising activities for Wisconsin Public Radio. It assists the development staff in identifying potential funding sources and as a source of informed and dedicated volunteer help.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
The Association, through its regional projects, provides the opportunity for the public to give feedback. It sponsors projects that involve public participation, whether as members of the audiences for live broadcasts or as participants in the broadcast experience itself (e.g., the Young People's Radio Competition). The emphasis is on projects in which the public has a chance to become a genuine part of the radio experience. Members of the Association may participate in the planning functions of station management and staff members.
